Peel Island lies at the southern end of Coniston Water, towards the eastern shore. Many Ransome fans consider it to be Wild Cat Island, and it is certainly the location of the Secret Harbour. People have also suggested that either Blakeholme (on Windermere) or Rampsholme (on Derwentwater) could be the original Wild Cat Island.
Peel Island also featured in W.G. Collingwood's viking saga, Thorstein of the Mere.
