Mixed Moss, by A Rolling Stone is Captain Flint's memoir on which he is working in the early chapters of Swallows and Amazons. His dedication to writing the memoir during holiday time is a sore point with his nieces, the Amazons. When his trunk is stolen from the Houseboat, Captain Flint deeply regrets the manuscript's loss and is on the point of abandoning the memoir when the trunk is found again by Titty and Roger.
