The Iron Duke was the ship on which Jacky, the son of the Whittles' of the barge "Welcome of Rochester" was serving in the Royal Navy, as Mrs Whittle told Port and Starboard. Between 1930 and 1939, HMS Iron Duke had been decommissioned as a warship and was serving as a gunnery training ship.
