Hugh Brogan wrote the first biography of Arthur Ransome, The Life of Arthur Ransome which was published by Jonathan Cape in 1984. He later edited a book of Arthur Ransome's correspondence, Signalling from Mars.
He also edited two books by Arthur Ransome:
- Coots in the North and other stories with sections of the 13th Swallows and Amazons novel 'Coots in the North' plus several short stories
- The War of the Birds and the Beasts
