Major Busk was a sailing friend of Arthur Ransome, with a yacht Lapwing (a 9-ton cutter) which towed a dinghy called Wizard. Both boats appeared under those names in Secret Water. The family lived at the Grange up the lane leading to Pin Mill
He often sailed to Hamford Water with his wife and their three children Gillian (Jill), Michael and John. The children became the Eels in Secret Water (CFT pp186,187 & pictures 38,40,41).
