'''Hugh Brogan''' wrote the first biography of Arthur Ransome, [[The Life of Arthur Ransome]] which was published by [[Jonathan Cape]] in 1984. He later edited a book of Arthur Ransome's correspondence, [[Signalling from Mars]]. He also edited two books by [[Arthur Ransome]]: * ''[[Coots in the North and other stories]]'' with sections of the 13th Swallows and Amazons novel '[[Coots in the North]]' plus several short stories *''[[The War of the Birds and the Beasts]]'' Hugh Brogan was for ten years a Fellow of St Johnβs College, Cambridge. In 1984 he was a lecturer in American History at the University of Essex, and had just completed ''A History of the United States''.
